Fishing for Māui: A novel about food, family and mental illness.

Isa Ritchie is a finalist in the NZ Booklovers best book award, and named one of the best books of 2018 in the Listener Magazine.

Isa is a Wellington-based writer. She grew up as a Pākehā child in a bicultural family and Māori was her first written language. She has completed a PhD on food sovereignty in Aotearoa. She is passionate about food, wellbeing and social justice.

Background

I had the privilege of creating the cover and initial pages for Isa. The narrative centers around; Valerie who reads George Eliot to get to sleep – just to take her mind off worries over her patients, her children, their father and the next family dinner. Elena is so obsessed with health, traditional food, her pregnancy and her blog she doesn’t notice that her partner, Malcolm the ethicist, is getting himself into a moral dilemma of his own making. Rosa is eight years old and lost in her own fantasy world, but she’s the only one who can tell something’s not right.

Ocean Notorious: Journeys to lost and lonely places of the deep south

Matt Vance, a writer, artist, and filmmaker based in New Zealand, specialises in unique narratives from the South Pacific, Southern Ocean, and Antarctica. He has played a guide's role and narrated numerous stories on his voyages to Antarctica and the subantarctic islands, and he has been at the helm of the Artists in Antarctica Program.

Background

I had the privilege of creating the cover and initial pages for Matt and Awa Press. The narrative centers on his journey to the remote southern regions where you will discover an unrivaled universe – intimidating subantarctic islands, remarkable marine life, risks-bearing flora, the perpetual presence of birds and, should you journey to the utmost, the imposing glacial walls and lifeless valleys of Antarctica.
